Fall Foilage

Next week the cold will be upon us and soon all the leaves will be gone. But, before they are gone, here are a few photos taken around Rapid City over the last few weeks.
The camera on my cell phone is not very good so I was pleasantly surprised that these first two turned out as well as they did as they were taken with my cell phone.

Autumn on the Prairie

The greens of summer are almost all gone now. They have been replaced by tan, yellow, gold and orange. Occasionally a bit of red even pops into the trees, but mostly across I-90 in South Dakota the prairie grass and trees turn gold and orange.

Although, when the sun hits the grass just right it does have a red hue as in this next photo taken not long after sunrise.

Autumn is my favorite season even though we don't get all the rich colors of Autumn. What is Autumn like where you live?

Summer Skies

I decided to look through my cell phone photos for a summer sky shot to share today for Skywatch Friday. I couldn't decide on just one so instead decided to give you a summer series.

Memorial Lake

Memorial Lake is part of Memorial Park near down town Rapid City. I had the chance to take a walk around the lake one afternoon this week and here is what I saw. In case you are wondering, the building in the background of the first photo is our civic center.

Pronghorn

While driving from Sioux Falls to Rapid City along I90 on Sunday we came across this beautiful sight!

Obviously I don't know my animals very well as at first I thought it was a herd of young deer. Although, they didn't look exactly like most of the deer I have seen.  I also found it odd that there was no sign of a buck or an older doe.

So when I got home and brought the image up on my computer and could zoom in to get a closer look, I realized right away that this was no herd of deer. While the body shape was similar, the neck and head had more of a horse shape, and they didn't appear to have tails. So my search began. I soon learned these are young female Pronghorns

Talk about a beautiful animal. Here is a look at an adult male.

Sunday In My City: Autumn

Unknown Mami

The bike trails along the Big Sioux River are a great place to take advantage of a warm Autumn day.

My daughter found a heart
We were not the only ones that thought it was a perfect day to enjoy the outdoors.

Even the wildlife were enjoying the lovely weather.

I hope you enjoyed Sunday in my city. Click on the button at the top to visit others.
