How to Save Those Old Bridges
I am sad to say that this beautiful old bridge was torn down by the county last winter as it was no longer safe for vehicle traffic and upkeep was considered an unneeded expense. Today over at Hartford Daily Photo Jack posted about a lovely old bridge in Simsbury that the community rallied around and repurposed in such a lovely way, I just had to share the idea. So please hop over to Jack's blog to see how they turned their bridge into a splendid garden. I wish the same could have been done with this old bridge but as it was located in a rural area with little to no traffic, so I can see where arousing such interest may not have been possible.
However, there are still a number of these lovely bridges in and around the city of Sioux Falls, and even more dotting the countryside. A few of these like this one along the bike trial are maintained for foot traffic and bicyclists. Others stand barricaded off and lonely. Wouldn't it be glorious to transform some of these bridges into gardens?

Embracing Tranquility
Living in the city there is always something going on. It is very easy to get caught up in the whirl of activities. Our minds and bodies however need a bit of tranquility to recoup from time to time. It is times like that when I embrace tranquility and head straight for one of the many beautiful parks in our city, such as the Japanese Gardens you see in these photos.
Although the busy streets are not far from the park very rarely do you hear the hectic street sounds. As I was walking in the park, every so often I would smell the scent of burning wood and kept thinking of a camp fire. The scent was strong and steady in one area of the park, so after leaving the park I took a look around and discovered that a homeowner next to the park had trimmed his trees and was burning the dried branches in one of those cast iron fire pits. For me it added to the serenity of the park, reminding me of the beautiful camp sights I have enjoyed in years past.

Tut Hill Gardens
Sioux Falls has many beautiful parks, and some of the flower gardens are a work of art in themselves. This Garden is at Tut Hill and is a favorite spot for weddings and portrait photo sessions by many of the local photographers.
